WORKING WITH
SCHOOLS AND LOCAL GROUPS

Our team is dedicated to helping young people enrich their learning experiences. We believe that interacting with nature forms a vital part of personal growth and development.

Our grounds are the perfect place to take students to learn, explore and play, whether for a day trip or as part of a longer-term study.

We also partner with local experts to support us in managing the needs of our wildlife.

'Ticket' - Easton College

Students aged 16-18 from Easton College visit Whitlingham Country Park to gain valuable workplace skills from hands-on experience, through Ticket.

By contributing to the park’s maintenance and conservation efforts, they develop practical skills that support their personal growth and offer future career opportunities.

UEA Swan Project

The University of East Anglia Ringing Group has been monitoring wildfowl and gull populations at Whitlingham Broad for many years. Using coded metal rings fitted to the birds' legs, the team tracks their movements, survival rates, and longevity. This important work is conducted under a Home Office license issued by the British Trust for Ornithology (BTO).

The rings can be read from a distance by the public, which greatly aids in monitoring efforts and reduces the need to recapture the birds, minimising disturbance, especially for species like swans.

Volunteering

Whitlingham Country Park would not be the well-kept oasis it is without our incredible team of regular volunteers. We have over twenty now!

They take part in a wide variety of maintenance tasks each week including grass cutting, coppicing, hay raking as well as site checks and litter picks. They are a greatly valued asset.

We also regularly host corporate volunteering groups from local and national companies.

COMMUNITY
ORCHARD

Community Orchard

With the support of Norfolk County Council and their Million Trees project, Sinclair International funded us to plant 30 Norfolk apple tree varieties in our new community orchard at Whitlingham Country Park.

Once fully established and fruiting, this orchard will create a beautiful space for community events and educational activities, celebrating Norfolk’s rich horticultural heritage.

Thanks to the wonderful school councillors at Trowse Primary School for helping us to plant the trees!
