What have we here?
It seems there's been an interesting secret hiding not far from the well-trodden Great Broad path.
Whitlingham Country Park staff and volunteers recently discovered this historic mystery while clearing undergrowth. You probably already guessed it from the shape... it's an old well!
So where can I find this well?
The well is located near the pump house area by the Great Broad. There is now a brand new pathway navigating around this newly discovered feature, like a roundabout. The path crosses over Whitlingham Lane, and leads all the way into Whitlingham Woods! Take a look at the 18th century pump house which is nearby too.

Why the new pathway?
This new path forms part of the park's Tramper scooter trail for an inclusive way to explore Whitlingham. It allows visitors to access the woods safely using our all-terrain mobility scooter. There is so much to see and do at the park, and some of the existing access points to the woods were not wide enough for Tramper access, so a new path was the answer. We want everyone to be able to explore the park as fully as possible!
If you haven't been into the woods before, you won't be disappointed. You will likely see:
birds, or at least hear their songs
mossy decaying logs
amazing fungi
woodland plants and flowers
steep banks and cliffs
How can I use the Tramper scooter at Whitlingham?
