VOLUNTEERING
Whitlingham Country Park operates with a very small core team of staff. Our volunteers play a huge role in making the park the fantastic place it is for you to visit.
Regular volunteering
We are so grateful to our regular volunteers who support the park. Many of them give a day a week, sometimes more, to support this beautiful space. What a great bunch!
What do the Whitlingham volunteers get involved in?
-
coppicing (from October to February)
-
hay raking (summer season)
-
hedge laying and tree planting
-
grass and hedge cutting
-
strimming verges
-
site checks and litter picking
-
tool and machinery maintenance
-
leading guided walks
-
supporting family events
-
plus many more varied tasks around the park!
What is coppicing? Find out here.
Many of our volunteers have great wealth of knowledge about wildlife including moths, birds and fungi.
Our brilliant long-standing volunteer, Keith, monitors a moth trap at the park and has so far identified over 125 different species. Incredible!
Our capacity for taking on new volunteers is reaching its limit at the moment. Get in touch if you want us to keep you in mind for a later date.

Corporate volunteering
Many larger companies give their staff volunteering days each year.
We are delighted that so many people choose to come to Whitlingham!
What do corporate volunteers get involved in?
-
coppicing (from October to February)
-
hay raking (summer season)
-
and occasionally other tasks such as plant surveys in the meadow areas.
We regularly host groups from Aviva, Marsh and the DWP among other businesses, local and national.
We do not charge businesses for corporate volunteering days. We appreciate businesses giving employees time to support our work.
Corporate volunteering days are incredibly popular, so we get a busy calendar very quickly. Get in touch if you want to find out more and get your team involved.
